Nearly 2 inches of rain fell in Des Moines as much of Iowa saw heavy rain and severe thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday.

Some areas in southeast Iowa experienced sporadic wind gusts over 80 mph. Clinton County experienced half inch sized hail, according to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.

Des Moines saw a total of 1.85 inches of rain on Monday and Tuesday, accompanied by scattered storms and occasional lighting. Tornado watches were issued in central and eastern Iowa Tuesday evening.

Rainfall was mostly concentrated in southern portions of the state throughout the week. Here are the Iowa towns that had the highest rainfall totals from Monday morning to 9 a.m. Tuesday:

• Glenwood: 6.10 inches
• Indianola: 5.50 inches
• Council Bluffs: 3.67 inches
• Sioux City: 2.72 inches
• Guttenberg: 2.61 inches
