The Des Moines Storytellers Project is seeking Iowans who want to share their true, first-person stories about overcoming hardships or finding new purpose live on stage for our next show.

"Overcoming" will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Hoyt Sherman Place, 1501 Woodland Ave. Stories can be literal or metaphoric around the theme.

The Des Moines Storytellers Project is a series of storytelling events in which community members work to tell true, first-person stories live on stage. The project is dedicated to the idea that oral storytelling and journalism have the same goals: Serving and reflecting a community while fostering empathy.

We believe everyone has a story and everyone can tell their story. None of the storytellers who take our stage are professionals. They are our neighbors, friends or co-workers, and they are coached to tell by Des Moines Register journalists.

If you have a family story to tell, read our guidelines and submit a story at DesMoinesRegister.com/Tell.

You also can fill out the submission form below.

Our only requirements are that you are an Iowan who will tell a true story that's (mostly) about you. All submissions must be received by Aug. 1 to be considered. We have limited spots available but will save submissions for consideration in future shows.
