A cocktail bar is eyeing a vacant storefront in Highland Park.

Des Moines' Plan and Zoning Commission has approved a request by developer Connor Delaney, who also owns the French Way Cleaners & Dyers building in Highland Park and the Ingersoll Dinner Theatre , to rezone a property he owns at 515 Euclid Ave. for a "small scale bar and lounge area."

The one-story brick masonry building sits between A&J African Food Store and Quick Stop African Food Market and closely neighbors Divine Times Vintage. The project entails building a 600-square-foot specialty cocktail bar and basement workspace.

No residents registered in opposition to the project, according to commission records. The plans may not be set in stone though. A year ago, Delaney went through the a similar process with city staff to discuss converting the same building into a restaurant.
