Iowa county not expecting casino plans with moratorium lifted
INDIANOLA, Iowa — A two-year moratorium for new casino licenses in the state expired on Monday. The moratorium was almost extended, but the bill failed to make it out of the Iowa Senate this last session. All eyes are now on counties and cities that may plan to move forward with a referendum vote, or seeking approval from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
University of Iowa and Iowa State University drop in U.S. News & World Report global ranks
In the most recent U.S. News & World Report, the University of Iowa fell 45 spots in Best Global Universities Rankings, while Iowa State University's ranking dropped 81 spots. The University of Iowa ranked 180th in last year's list, but fell to 225th in 2024. Iowa State University was ranked 263rd in 2023 and is now ranked 344th.

Reminder: 4th of July Closures in Dallas County
A reminder that there will be many closures in the cities of Perry and Adel in observance of the 4th of July holiday tomorrow. The City of Perry claims that the Perry City offices, the Perry Public Library, the McCreary Community Building, and the Water Works Office will be closed tomorrow. The McCreary Building is still open for members ages 18 and older to use the 24-Hour Fitness Room. Perry City Hall will have offices closed on Friday as well. According to the City of Perry, garbage will still run as normal.
