Swim education and water knowledge help to prevent drownings
Two individuals have drowned off the coasts of Evanston beaches in the last five years. This year alone, 36 people have drowned across Lake Michigan. But there are a number of preventative measures, from swimming skills and supervision to knowledge of natural waters and flotation devices that can combat the problem.
Downed trees, power outages reported in North Suburbs from Tuesday evening storms

Police ticket driver who caused a crash while making a U-turn
A man was ticketed July 15 in Riverside after police responded to a car crash involving four vehicles. Just before 6 p.m. that day, an officer was dispatched to assist other police at the intersection of South Harlem Avenue and Lawton Road after a four-car crash. Athletes Unlimited is an organization that has professional women’s sports leagues in basketball, softball, volleyball and lacrosse. In its fourth season, it is now the longest-lasting pro women’s lacrosse league in history. The five-week league has a unique format — the competition is between individuals rather than teams, which get re-selected each week by different team captains. Players earn points for recording wins, game MVP honors and different statistics. At the end of the season, top points earners will receive monetary rewards.
