OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — An 11-month-old child nearly drowned in Destin, News 5 has learned.

A post from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a child from Mississippi was found face down, unresponsive in the water at Destin’s Norriego Point Public Beach Friday evening at 7.

Fortunately, this story didn’t turn into a tragedy.

“A family member and bystander performed CPR on the child until the Coast Guard arrived and took over,” the post said. “The baby and parents were taken to the Coast Guard station to wait for a medical transport helicopter. EMS and Coast Guard personnel were able to get the juvenile responsive and breathing prior to transport.”

The OCSO says they applaud the intense efforts of all involved and are praying for the child.
