A man has been hospitalized after a drowning incident on Detroit Lakes Saturday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Little Detroit Lake, with a 911 caller reporting that a 24-year-old man had "gone under the water" while swimming from shore near the area of Zorbaz restaurant.

According to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office, numerous agencies came to the scene. By the time responders arrived, bystanders had already begun a search for the swimmer, and a citizen located him "a couple of minutes later."

Unresponsive and not breathing, the man was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes and later a Fargo-area hospital for treatment. His current condition was unknown as of Saturday evening.

The victim's name was being withheld pending family notification.
