Tips wanted to find woman driving Dodge Caravan who fled scene after hitting and killing scooter rider in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A local family is asking for help from the public to solve the case, two months since their loved one was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Detroit.

According to investigators, just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, 51-year-old Dewayne Arlee was riding a Suzuki scooter at the corner of Fenkell and Santa Rosa when he was hit by a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The driver of that vehicle — believed to be a Black female, according to Crime Stoppers — drove away after the crash, but was caught on video, along with a male passenger.

Arlee was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronoucned dead.

Police found the damage suspect vehicle two days later, abandoned in the area of Wabash and Puritan, but they have not been able to identify the driver.

As the investigation continues, Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the tip that leads to an arrest in this case.
