BMitch: Commanders have built quality coaching staff around Dan Quinn

Many Commanders fans were hoping Ben Johnson would get the head coaching job this offseason, but then the Lions offensive coordinator infamously spurned them by withdrawing his candidacy as Washington brass was on a flight to Detroit to speak with him about the job.

The Commanders pivoted to Dan Quinn, and after seeing the staff Quinn and Washington built around him, BMitch believes it could be for the best, using Kendrick Lamar’s recent concert special as an anecdote to explain his reasoning.

“Everybody got excited about Ben Johnson,” BMitch said. “He was the Drake, the popular dude. Everybody just wanted him.…but the guy that can work inside to make things better, you get all these coaches with these levels of experience, you get these former players that are damn good coaches on top of it.

“I think Dan Quinn was the Kendrick Lamar of this thing. He’s pulling people together from different backgrounds and are experts at different positions…I think it’s gonna put them in a better position than had they brought in Ben Johnson.”

Quinn has Bobby Engram as his wide receivers coach, who has 14 years of NFL experience, Anthony Lynn and his six years of NFL experience as the running backs coach, and several others who have extensive football resumes. For BMitch, that is the bigger factor for team success than the flashy name in Ben Johnson.

“It’s more experience…and I think we need an experienced staff to get the most out of this team,” BMitch said.
