Joel Dahmen assured CBS Sports presenter Amanda Balionis he is playing to win ahead of the final day of the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

Dahmen has left himself firmly in the mix ahead of the fourth and final round at the Detroit Golf Club on Sunday. The 36-year-old is currently T7 and three shots off tied leaders Aaron Rai and Akshay Bhatia and has set his sights on overturning the deficit and claiming victory.

Entering the competition on the back of his first top 10 finish this season, Dahmen has played some great golf this week and is 14-under after 54 holes and he’s made his target on Sunday clear. Balionis posted a picture of her interviewing Dahmen to her Instagram, with the words: “Last time we saw Joel Dahmen was in Canada when he put up his first T10 of the season.” She added the interaction as she asked him: “The mission tomorrow?” To which Dahmen replied: “I’m here to win”.

Speaking to Balionis and CBS following his performance on Saturday, Dahmen admitted he wasn’t happy with his showing. Saying he would like to make more putts despite sinking a 25-foot birdie on the 13th hole in the third round, he said: "I hit a great so I'm just going to keep hitting it like I did and make more putts. That's my plan,” he said.

“You have to be aggressive out here people are going to make birdies. So I'm just going to I'm going to stay aggressive. I want to win I don't don't want to finish fifth or fourth or second. So I'm going to go try to win tomorrow and hopefully, that works out."

Dahmen is making his first appearance since his T10 finish at the RBC Canadian Open at the beginning of June. The 36-year-old has been unable to compete since due to limited field Signature events and the U.S. Open in this month’s calendar. The 159th ranked ace revealed he wanted to continue following his good weekend at Hamilton but was left frustrated as he was unable to qualify for the field at Pinehurst No.2 and ultimately had to wait for three weeks until he was able to return.

"So I spent time with family went to the mountains played a little bit of golf, but not much really,” Dahmen said. “I like where my game was I like where my head was. So yeah, I'm excited that the game is still here after three weeks off.”
