A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing in New York early Wednesday after passengers were sickened by bad food.
The redeye flight landed at JFK airport at 4 a.m. “after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

“This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels,” the Delta spokesperson said.
At least one passenger tweeted the airline during the layover seeking an update, which Delta said it would provide only in private messages.

“I need to know how you’re going to get me to Amsterdam today,” the passenger tweeted.
“I’m on the plane that’s emergency landing at JFK because you served passengers ‘contaminated’ food – I don’t need hotel/food vouchers I need to arrive in Amsterdam today.”
