Game notes: We're just a few games past the halfway point this season, with the unofficial halfway mark, the All-Star game, less than a week away, but the Tigers and Twins will face off for the 10th time this season on Thursday in the finale of their third series this year, weather allowing.

With the Tigers trying to leave a sour taste in their divisional foe's mouth until they play one final series later this month (in Detroit), they'll have free-agent addition Kenta Maeda, who spent the past two seasons with the Twins, on the mound.

Maeda is coming off one of his best starts of the year, when he allowed just two runs off six hits and one walk to the Los Angeles Angels, a game the Tigers eventually lost, 5-2. The Japanese righty threw 52 of 87 pitches for strikes, creating seven whiffs. Against an Angels lineup lacking most of its star power, it wasn't the most impressive outing ever, but considering some of Maeda's struggles, it was another step in the right direction after throwing more than 90 pitches for the first time this season in the two starts prior.

After the Tigers wrap up their series against the Twins, they will head to Cincinnati for a three-game series with the Reds to wrap up a 10-game, 11-day road trip, then host the Cleveland Guardians at Comerica Park on Monday.
