GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Following up a mostly cloudy and fairly humid Independence Day, there’s the potential for scattered thunderstorms forming on Friday. You’ll want to be mindful of the weather if you’ll be out golfing, on the boat, or taking part in other outdoor plans during the holiday weekend. Thunderstorms are expected to be at their most widespread near the midday hours Friday working through with a cold front passage.

The risk of severe weather is limited in West Michigan – but some of the stronger thunderstorms locally may be capable of brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. Northern and eastern portions of Lower Michigan including Cheboygan, Saginaw, and Detroit have a marginal severe weather risk (Category 1 out of 5).

Rain chances will diminish as we go through Saturday morning and it’s likely that dry weather will be prevalent until late Sunday night.

You’ll also notice less humidity and a slight reduction in temperatures going through Saturday and Sunday following the cold front clipping through Friday – dew points will drop by about 10° which will make it feel more comfortable & less sticky.
