DETROIT (WWJ) -- After some hit-and-miss showers in Metro Detroit on the 4th of July, heavier thunderstorms eyeing the region could turn severe on Friday, according to forecasters.

AccuWeather meteorologists say they're keeping a close eye on a specific area stretching from Tennessee to Michigan, New Hampshire and Massachusetts that will be affected by this approaching system. While severe thunderstorms won’t hit every location in these states, AccuWeather said areas that do see storms could face torrential downpours and wind gusts strong enough to break tree limbs and bring down power lines.

In Metro Detroit, the National Weather Service said there's a "marginal" potential for isolated severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening, with the main risk being damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, and large hail.

Forecasters say the most likely time-frame for this severe weather the WWJ listening area is from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday .

Meanwhile, it'll be hot during the day and comfortable at night. The forecasted high on Friday is 82 degrees, with a low of 65.

Looking ahead, WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Matt Benz said Saturday is looking better, a bit cooler and less humid. There could be a passing shower or two, but no heavy storms are in the forecast for Metro Detroit, with a high of 78.

The forecast for Sunday then looks fairly pleasant, Benz said, calling for mostly sunny skies and a high of 84 degrees.
