    College notes: Area students recognized by colleges, universities

    MONROE COUNTY — Area students earned honors at U.S. colleges and universities.

    Wayne State University

    DETROIT — Wyatt Bergmoser of Newport graduated summa cum laude in May from Wayne State University. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

    Kettering University

    FLINT — Several area students graduated June 15 from Kettering University.

    Quinn Austin of Milan earned a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. Grant Griswold of Milan earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Ian Ryan of Monroe earned a bachelor's degree in computer science.

    Ariana Hunt of Monroe earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. She also was awarded a President's Medal during its 2024 Honors Banquet at Kettering University. Eight President's Medals were awarded to "students demonstrating excellence in cooperative employment, scholarship and community engagement," Kettering University said.

    Albion College

    ALBION — Albion College announces its spring dean's list students and new Albion College Fellows. Fellows are students with a 3.75 or higher grade point average and three consecutive semester on the dean's list.

    On the spring dean's list are: Jenna Smith of Flat Rock, Amelia Douglas of Dundee, Liliana Lopez of Brownstown Township and Jenna Kekich of Woodhaven, who recently earned a degree in psychology and a minor in educational studies.

    New Albion College Fellows are: Cole Giesige of Ottawa Lake, Ella Bolster of Monroe, Jillian Bentley of Flat Rock

    Millikin University

    DECATUR, Ill. — Delaney Higgins of Milan is on the dean's list for the spring term at Millikin University.

    Baldwin Wallace University

    BEREA, Ohio — Dillon Dlugosielski of Temperance is on the dean's list for the spring 2024 semester at Baldwin Wallace University.

    Monroe County Community College

    The Foundation at Monroe County Community College awarded several scholarships.

    Katie Kowicki received the $2,850 Gwendolyn M. Jacob Memorial Scholarship. Kowicki of Monroe, a 2023 graduate of Monroe High School, will study psychology.

    Sophia Ogle was awarded the $2,500 Noel H. and Elizabeth R. Dentner Scholarship. Ogle of Petersburg, a 2024 graduate of Summerfield High School, will study biology.

    Lia Frost was awarded the $3,300 William J. and Hildreth C. Braunlich Memorial Scholarship. Frost of Newport, a 2024 graduate of St. Mary Catholic Central High School, will study early childhood education.

    Mara Vitale received the $1,250 Monroe County Exchange Club Scholarship. Vitale of Monroe, a 2024 graduate of Monroe County Middle College, will study respiratory therapy.
