LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A 62-year-old Detroit man drowned Friday evening after he fell from a boat into White Lake in White Lake Township, Oakland County.

The man’s 65-year-old brother was driving the boat they were on at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, officials from Oakland County Office of the Sheriff said. He was walking to the back of the boat to get a beverage when he lost his balance and fell into the lake.

His brother threw a flotation device into the water, but the man couldn’t stay afloat. Two nearby kayakers pulled him from the lake and took him to the shore.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures, officials said, and the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Oakland County officials said neither of the two men had been wearing life jackets, and that alcohol seems to have been a factor in the accident.
