NFL analyst thinks Detroit Lions could trade this veteran defender

Ahead of a season in which they have serious Super Bowl aspirations, the Detroit Lions should be looking to bolster their group of edge rushers, even after they addressed the position in free agency earlier this offseason.

However, Pro Football Network's Anthony DiBona thinks it's conceivable that the Lions could trade one of their edge rushers, and namely backup edge rusher John Cominsky.

Here's what he wrote about the 28-year-old former fourth-round pick:

The Detroit Lions are incredibly deep at the edge position, with Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport leading the team’s talented group. Therefore, John Cominsky could potentially be moved this upcoming season, as he will potentially take a backseat to Davenport and others.

Davenport was no doubt a key addition this offseason, as he's shown the ability to be an impact pass-rusher during his career (career-high nine sacks in 2021). The hope is that he can take some pressure off Aidan Hutchinson.

The problem is that Davenport has quite the injury history. He has never played a full season in his career and he's coming off a campaign in which he only saw the field for four games.

Knowing that, the Lions need all the depth they can get, and in fact they should still be looking to add another edge rusher moving forward. Two players general manager Brad Holmes should consider are Yannick Ngakoue and Emmanuel Ogbah, the latter of whom we suggested in an article going over free agents the Lions should sign.
