(WWJ) Metro Detroit may have a rather stormy start to the week.

Forecasters say there is a "slight" risk for severe weather starting late Monday night in Southeast Michigan, with the possibility of damaging winds and even the chance of a tornado.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Wayne, Macomb, Livingston, Oakland, and Washtenaw counties, beginning at midnight Monday at running through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters warn that the overnight storms could dump an-inch of rain per-hour — causing rivers and creeks to overflow. Low-lying areas with poor drainage will be most susceptible.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg, the area north of Detroit will see showers and thunderstorms on Monday morning, with a Flood Advisory in place for parts of northeastern Oakland and northern Macomb Counties.

But the real risk for severe weather will come in the evening.

The weather service says the worst of the storms will most likely hit Southeast Michigan overnight between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday, with damaging wind gusts near 60 mph being the primary hazard.

As far as flooding, Andrew Arnold with the National Weather Service in Detroit says the I-96 and I-94 corridors are particularly at risk.

"With the rainfall amounts, we're looking at one to two inches that are expected across Southeast Michigan," Arnold said.

Hail and flooding downpours are also a possibility in the region.

Meanwhile, Metro Detroiters can expect hot and humid temperatures throughout the day on Monday, with the high forecasted near 90 degrees.

Tuesday is looking hot and humid, with a high of 87 degrees, a mix of clouds and sun with a stray thunderstorm possible.

Wednesday's AccuWeather forecast calls for a slightly cooler high of 79 degrees, with times of clouds and sun with chance for a shower in the afternoon.
