The NFL is quite strict with its injury report rules. Teams are required to report any injury that may impact a player's ability to perform. So when Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown admitted to playing through injury in the Netflix show "Receivers", there were some eyebrows raised.

St. Brown said that he injured his oblique muscle in Week 3, causing extreme pain. The Lions star played through the injury with their Week 4 contest set in four days.

“We have a Thursday game after Atlanta,” St. Brown said on the show. “So, I can barely — I mean, I’m running but the pain is like, on a 10 it’s like at an eight. Eight or nine. And so I’m like, ‘It’s too late for me not to play. The game plan’s in.’

The issue is that St. Brown did not appear on the Lions' injury report for said Week 4 game despite this injury. The league might decide to investigate this incident, as they have done in the past.

There's a precedent set for teams that willingly withheld injury information. The Steelers were fined in 2019 for failing to disclose Ben Rothlisberger's injury properly. It remains to be seen whether the Lions will follow the same fate.
