Detroit Lions suggested as trade partner for 3 veteran wide receivers

If there's one position group on offense where the Detroit Lions could look to add to before or during the regular season, it's the wide receiver position.

Aside from star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, there are question marks. Detroit is depending on Jameson Williams to step into the No. 2 role after a lackluster start to his career, and the team doesn't really have any insurance policy behind him after the departure of Josh Reynolds to the Denver Broncos .

Knowing that, For The Win's Cory Woodroof suggested the Lions as a possible trade partner for three different veteran wide receivers: the Houston Texans' Robert Woods, the New York Jets' Allen Lazard, and the Carolina Panthers' Adam Thielen.

After seeing his decline in recent years, Woods isn't likely to move the needle enough to make him worth trading for.

Lazard would be a better option, as he's 28 and has shown he can make an impact with a competent quarterback under center. Lazard is coming off his worst season since his rookie year, but that was with Zach Wilson throwing him the football.

Thielen is the best bet in terms of a reliable option, though. Granted, he's about to turn 34, but the veteran wide receiver showed he still has plenty left in the tank, tallying 1,000 yards despite Carolina's slew of issues on offense in 2023.

Thielen does his best work out of the slot, but he can also line up on the boundary if need be. A total of 30% of his snaps came from that spot in 2023. He has one more year left on his deal after this season but it wouldn't be expensive to cut him if he doesn't pan out.

When it comes to depth options at wide receiver, the Lions could definitely do worse than Thielen and Lazard.
