A Lions' player that nobody is paying attention to could win a big role this offseason

One of the most fun parts of training camp is that some guys come out of nowhere and earn important roles. The Detroit Lions have a guy on this roster that could potentially do that this season. We're talking about tackle Connor Galvin.

The Lions have the best offensive line in football right now, but as we saw last year, depth is a key thing to have. The Lions will be looking to fill their third tackle spot this summer and there's going to be a very interesting competition between Dan Skipper, Colby Sorsdal and Connor Galvin. The latter may shock everyone and take that spot.

Last year Galvin, an undrafted rookie, was in the running to make the 53-man roster , but wound up on the practice squad. The reason he was in the running was because he had a very good preseason. He walked out with a Pro Football Focus grade of 79.2 after playing in all three games. The Lions clearly liked what they saw from him, but wanted to see more. That's why he was signed to a futures deal after the season.

Now Galvin has a shot to make it for a few reasons. The first being that Giovanni Manu being on the team in a redshirt capacity is going to push someone out. The most likely candidate at the moment is Dan Skipper. I know Lions fans will hate that, but the Lions should be looking to get younger and the team can still look to retain Skip on the practice squad.

That leaves Colby Sorsdal vs Galvin. Sorsdal could put up a big fight since he can make the argument that he could play some guard if needed, but Galvin has a shot to win over here if he has a killer camp and preseason. Again, Sorsdal is someone that can still remain on the roster due to the versatility he can bring.

The Lions will probably look to keep about nine linemen on the roster. That's Taylor Decker, Graham Glasgow, Frank Ragnow, Kevin Zietler, Penei Sewell, Connor Galvin, Christian Mahogany, Giovanni Manu and Colby Sorsdal.

We'll soon see how things turn out, but Galvin is someone to really keep an eye on going forward.
