New Lions' coach is already making an impact, even without the pads on

The Detroit Lions made some changes to their coaching staff this offseason when they hired defensive line coach Terrell Williams during the Senior Bowl. Williams is considered to be one of the best defensive line coaches in the league, so it was big deal getting him to Detroit.

Now that training camp has started, everyone is eager to see how Williams will change a Lions' defensive line that had some struggles in 2023. Next Monday when the pads come on is when we'll really start to see some stuff, but Lions' head coach Dan Campbell says he's already seeing differences.

"Well, yeah, I have already, but there again, you know, without pads on, I don't want to go too far, I just know, fundamentally, I already feel a difference in what we're doing with our D-line. You know, where we're striking, our ability to shed is starting to show up. And I like just these little things that we emphasize, that he's emphasizing, are showing up. So, yeah, I do see it."

Williams tutelage is going to be huge for some of the younger players that the Lions have high hopes for. James Houston is big one. We already know that he has more to prove the coaching staff this summer and Williams can help him do that. He recently turn Denico Autry from a decent player to a Pro Bowler late in his career.

Brodric Martin is the other one to watch. There's a lot of potential there, but he's super raw. Last year we learned he wasn't ready when he played his only game against the Raiders. This year he's shown up in tremendous shape and with the right coaching, he could blow up. Josh Paschal, Levi Onwuzurkie, Mathieu Betts, Mekhi Wingo and more are all going to benefit from this.

This could wind up being one of the most consequential hires the Lions have made during this run.
