Michigan monster mom gets 35-60 years for freezing son, 3, to death after stuffing him in freezer

A Michigan mom has been locked up and officially sentenced to 35-60 years for the horrific torture and murder of her three-year-old blind son, whose body was found stuffed in a freezer.

Azuradee France, 33, admitted to second-degree murder earlier this month over the demise of little Chayse Allen in 2022 and will be sentenced to between 35 and 60 years in jail as part of a plea deal. In a chilling confession to the police, France admitted that in late March 2022, her frustration with Chayse over his refusal to eat escalated to violence; she whipped him with a belt and delivered a kick to his chest.

The next morning, she found her toddler lifeless. France revealed that she didn't dial 999 as she was scared the police would take her remaining children into custody. Instead, she placed Chayse's body in a bag and stored it in the basement freezer.

Initially charged with multiple serious offenses in June 2022, including felony murder, child abuse, and the concealment of an individual's death, France saw these additional charges dropped in return for her guilty plea. The trial for France's murder charge had been slated to commence this Monday.

France's defense, Lillian Diallo from the Public Defender's Office, informed The Detroit News about the plea bargain, sealing France's long-term prison sentence.

Detroit police discovered the tragic scene after being called for a welfare check at a residence on the 12760 block of Monte Vista in the afternoon of June 24, 2022. There they unearthed the "remains of a deceased child" in the property's basement freezer, who was later confirmed to be young Chayse, leading to France's arrest and subsequent detention at Wayne County Jail, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

Detroit Police Chief James E. White was left shaken by the grim discovery in France's home, stating it was "something that no one should have to see."

"The other kids, just imagine what they must have gone through and what they must have endured being inside of that home," he said, revealing the harrowing conditions the children faced, including a child's decomposing body found in a freezer.

White recounted the officers' initial interaction with France, noting something was "not right" with her behavior and how she attempted to dismiss the authorities and Child Protective Services, pretending nothing was amiss. But the police chief affirmed they "knew that something was wrong," which ultimately led them to uncover the tragic fate of young Chayse.

The case also left prosecutors deeply disturbed. "The alleged facts in this case have astounded even the seriously jaded," Prosecutor Worthy expressed in disbelief after France's apprehension, highlighting the dangers children face, sometimes from within their own homes. France is due to appear in court again on July 29 for her formal sentencing hearing.
