Things got chippy during Monday's joint training camp practice between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions .

Joint practices are notorious for being physical, often leading to fights between teams. It's the first time these teams are competing against actual opponents, so it's understandable that tensions run high.

Even with the extra physicality, there are still some unwritten guidelines that players follow during practices. Being physical is one thing, but no one wants to get hurt during practice.

Giants running back Devin Singletary believes the Lions took it a bit too far in setting the tone during Monday's practice.

It happened when fellow running back Eric Gray took a massive hit from Lions cornerback Morice Norris Jr., leading the former's helmet to go flying off.

“That definitely crossed the line," Singletary said . "It’s practice, at the end of the day. We’re being physical, but you want to be smart. I would say that was one of the plays that set the tone. Like, ‘All right, let’s go. This is what type of day it’s going to be.’"

It certainly was that type of day. Multiple fights broke out during Monday's practice . As the heat continued to swell, the end of practice seemed to feature more fights than it did plays.

Even Giants quarterback Daniel Jones got involved in a scrum during the middle of practice.

The Lions are known for their physicality under Dan Campbell It's one of their trademark traits. But the Giants were impressive in their response to the physicality. They didn't lay down like the team did last year.

The Giants and Lions are back on the field for the final joint practice Tuesday before getting together for the preseason opener Thursday night.
