DICKINSON, ND ( KXNET ) — Right now, campus leaders and North Dakota’s Board of Higher Education have about a month to figure out a plan for the upcoming year at Dickinson State.

This week, KX News told you that Dickinson State University President Steve Easton announced he’s resigning.

Easton had served as president for the last four and a half years, but the relationship with faculty appears to have reached a crisis when last week, all seven of the school’s nursing faculty abruptly quit.

One of Easton’s priorities was to grow class sizes and graduate more registered nurses from the program.

But in a statement, Easton said he’s stepping away after he says he was prevented from trying to hire more nursing faculty.

“This is a critical need, so we’ve got to make sure that they work out something, you know with the nurses association and those instructors so they can continue that program and those students can continue their curriculum and we can, you know, produce more nurses which we badly need in the state, across the state, so yeah, very important that it’s addressed,” Sen. John Hoeven said.

So far, the state board of higher ed hasn’t taken any action regarding DSU.

We’re told there’s a nursing advisory meeting happening on Tuesday in Dickinson to discuss the next steps with the school’s nursing program.
