Dodgers Promote Two Minor Leaguers to Major League Roster

With the turn of the calendar, the Dodgers have promoted two minor leaguers to the expanded major league roster.

Outfielder Andy Pages and pitcher Justin Wrobleski have both been recalled and will add some much-needed depth at their respective positions.

Pages became the obvious choice once the Dodgers designated another outfielder, Jason Heyward, for assignment. Heyward has moved on to the Houston Astros since then.

Pages, who made his MLB debut on April 16, has played 98 games for the Dodgers this season. He posted a .246/.305/.388 slash line with 88 hits, 54 runs scored, nine home runs, and 36 runs batted in. He provided some extra depth at a position that was limited last season and will continue to do so even if he doesn’t see the field much.

After Max Muncy returned from the injured list, Pages was sent back to Triple-A Oklahoma City. With Muncy back, Mookie Betts returning to the outfield, and Kevin Kiermaier added to the roster, there was less room for Pages on the big league roster.

The 23-year-old has also shined in 24 games with Oklahoma City, where he slashed .356/.421/.663 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs.

Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were already on the IL, and now, Clayton Kershaw has joined them with a bone spur in his toe that caused him to exit Friday’s start early. The injuries led the Dodgers to Wrobleski because of the need for another starting pitcher.

Wrobleski, who’s made five starts for the Dodgers this season, posted a 1-1 record with a 4.68 ERA and 18 strikeouts. He started the season with Double-A Tulsa, making 13 starts and going 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA.

With Triple-A Oklahoma City, Wrobleski has started five games as well, going 0-2 with a 5.26 ERA and racking up 36 strikeouts.

Before his major league debut, the southpaw was considered the top left-handed pitching prospect in the Dodgers organization by multiple outlets. He was the Dodgers’ ninth-ranked prospect entering the season, according to The Athletic’s Keith Law.

The 24-year-old was drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University.

The Dodgers made one additional promotion Sunday, recalling right-handed pitcher Michael Grove and optioning reliever Ben Casparius.
