A Nevada rescue dog hit the headlines earlier this month as he was returned to a shelter for being “too boring.” The previous family of the pup, Duke, sent him back because of “his constant napping and apparent lack of enthusiasm.” The shelter soon put him up for adoption. They were optimistic that several other people would “vibe” with the pup’s “lack of energy.” Well, they were right, dog Duke has now found his new foster home.

Former family returns shelter dog for sleeping too much and lacking enthusiasm

The Animal Foundation posted a photo of the black Labrador Retriever on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The shelter noted that the 87-pound pup was looking for a new home as he was “the wrong fit for his last family.” The Labrador’s former family noted that he is “boring” and “sleeps all day.” They added that Duke “doesn’t get up and greet them when they get home.” The shelter joked that this is something the moms used to say “when we used to hibernate in our bedrooms as teenagers.”

They then wrote that Duke is potty trained and “walks well on a leash.” The heart-melting photo of the pup in the post broke hearts. A user called it a “sad excuse” for returning a dog. Meanwhile, another called Duke “the perfect cuddle buddy.”

Only hours after posting about him, The Animal Foundation confirmed Duke was “off to a cozy foster.” The lady who is taking him in is named Sue. USA TODAY learned that Duke seems to be comfortable in his new home from a spokesman for the shelter. The outlet reported that the pup was lost and wandering in a Las Vegas neighborhood. Duke was found and arrived at the shelter in late June. He was adopted by a family a few days later, on July 6. However, Duke was returned to the shelter a month later.

Nonetheless, Duke has found a cozy foster home where the dog can nap all he wants!
