After nearly four decades of serving the community, The Westgate Restaurant and Lounge, a staple in York County's dining scene, is on the market. Diane Shearer, the owner, has decided to retire, marking the end of an era for the beloved local eatery.

A Rich History and Community Legacy
Founded in 1985 at 1550 Kenneth Road, The Westgate began its journey as Subs Unlimited, a franchise venture started by Diane Shearer alongside her husband and two partners. Tragically, after a series of personal losses, Shearer took full ownership and in 1989 transformed the establishment into The Westgate Restaurant and Lounge. Over the years, it has become renowned for its inviting atmosphere and distinctive menu featuring homemade Strombolis, chicken wings, and pizzas.

    Details of the Sale
Recently listed through Bennett Williams Commercial Real Estate, the sale includes the 3,923 square-foot property, the business itself, all furnishings, fixtures, equipment (FF&E), and a coveted "R" Liquor License. Additionally, Shearer is offering to pass along her cherished food recipes to the new owners, hoping they will continue the tradition of quality that has drawn patrons from as far away as Texas.

    Operational Until Sale
Determined to keep the doors open until a suitable buyer is found, Shearer maintains regular business hours for both the lounge and dining room. The lounge opens from 11 a.m. to midnight or later, depending on the day, while the dining room serves customers primarily in the afternoon and evening.

    A Heartfelt Farewell
Reflecting on her decision, Shearer expressed mixed emotions about stepping away from a business that has been part of her family for so long. "It breaks our hearts," she said, "but it’s just time [to sell]." She extends her deepest gratitude to her loyal customers, whose support has been integral to the restaurant's long-standing success.

As The Westgate Restaurant and Lounge approaches this significant transition, the community waits to see who will take over and continue the legacy of this York County favorite.
