Laxo is the site supervisor and family services advocate for the Sturgeon Bay Head Start Center, a non-profit organization that has been serving Door County families with early childhood education since 1984. It’s hard to match the passion and enthusiasm she exudes for her work and difficult to render that spirit with a quote.
Art Therapy For Cradle To Career Participants
Thanks to the Women’s Fund of Door County, art therapy services are now available for parents participating in Door County Cradle to Career. Jodi Rose-Gonzales, Registered Art Therapist and National Certified Counselor, will meet one-on-one with interested parents remotely or at Enclave, her studio at 120 S. Madison Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. A donation from Nicolet Bank in 2023 funded a successful pilot program, during which Rose-Gonzales met with a limited number of parents.
Door County Man Receives 13-Year Sentence for Sexually Victimizing Michigan Minor
(WTAQ-WLUK) — A Door County man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for sexually victimizing an Upper Michigan minor. Todd Stafford, 60, of Baileys Harbor, was convicted of coercion and enticement of a minor and two counts of travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

Homestead students attend summer music academy
EGG HARBOR — Young musicians Mary Giersch of Thiensville and Benjamin Levin of Mequon spent the past two weeks in Door County studying at Birch Creek Music Performance Center. Giersch and Levin, who are students at Homestead High School, were among 63 musicians from throughout the country to attend the Symphony session at this academy whose unique mission is to provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment.
