BLM announces planned destruction of Lane County dam
The Bureau of Land Management has unveiled its plan to take down a rural Lane County dam after deeming it a public safety risk. The Hult Dam is in the Oregon Coast Range about 25 miles northwest of Eugene. It was built over 70 years ago in order to create a logging pond. Now, the BLM says the dam has exceeded its life span and is at risk of failing in the next decade.
Eugene man found guilty of assault in 2023 shooting case
EUGENE, Ore. – A Lane County jury has convicted a Eugene man on trial for a shooting near Highway 99 in 2023 that non-fatally injured another man. Back in January of 2023, Eugene police officers responded to a reported gunshot wound to find the suspect, Dustin William Harris, 31, had left the scene after shooting the victim. Police said the man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, and Harris was eventually arrested near River Road. The victim of the shooting survived the incident.
Oregon State University's Lane County Extension offers nutrition education and outreach program
EUGENE, Ore. – A local program could help shoppers save money on their next trip to the grocery store. Oregon State University runs a nutrition education and outreach program at its Lane County Extension. The program provides nutrition education to thousands of limited income youth, families, and adults and, by using research-based strategies, the program works to help people make the healthy choice… the easy choice. Food preserver Nadine Kellie said that there’s a number of classes coming up soon to give the public opportunities to learn practical skills that can translate into savings at the grocery store. Some of these classes including a fermenting course in August along with canning classes for salsas and proteins in November, said Kellie.
