SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A vehicle sank in Monterey Lake Saturday afternoon, but not before a dog was rescued from inside.

The vehicle went about 30 to 40 yards and 10 feet deep into the lake in Salem Township near Dorr, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. A dog was inside, but it was rescued by the owner before the vehicle sank, deputies say.

The sheriff’s Office responded just before 4 p.m. and the marine patrol used sonar equipment to find the vehicle under the water. The Allegan County Dive Rescue team was able to pull the vehicle out.

No one was injured. Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor.

It’s unclear what led up to the car going in the water.
