A Georgia Supreme Court judge has ordered Douglas County probate judge Christina Peterson to be disbarred after facing several ethics charges which have since been followed by a nightclub fight and alleged assault on a cop.

On Tuesday (June 25), Newsweek reported that, “effective immediately,” 38-year-old Christina Peterson was removed from her position as a probate judge in Douglas County after allegedly assaulting an Atlanta Police Department Officer outside of a nightclub in Atlanta last week.

In the early hours of June 20, there was a fight outside of the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge on Peachtree Road. According to 11alive , cell phone footage showed the moments leading up to Peterson’s arrests and how she attempted to break up the fight at the club.

Peterson’s attorney and Fulton County commissioner Marvin Arrington told the outlet that he believes his client was so distracted that she didn’t realize the police officer was in her space when she allegedly assaulted them. He said, “She didn’t even know the officer was there.” Upon arrival, the police officer tried to de-escalate the fight and ended up handcuffing Christina Peterson after accusing her of hitting the officer.

After the two altercations involving Douglas County probate judge Christina Peterson, which led to her arrest and charges of felony obstruction and simple battery, she has also now been removed from the bench by a Georgia Supreme Court judge. It’s reported that Christina Peterson had already been facing dozens of ethics charges brought against her by the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) back in 2022. Peterson, who was elected in 2020, had also been accused of misusing social media before she was even sworn in.

The JQC ruled that Peterson should be removed from her position and on Tuesday, the Georgia Supreme Court agreed, adding that their ruling was not related to her recent arrest.

A statement read, “In conclusion, in light of her multiple violations of the CJC rules in relation to several matters—some of them reflecting a flagrant disregard for the law, court rules, and judicial conduct rules; the pattern of violations that the Director proved by clear and convincing evidence; the extremely concerning nature of some of those violations, in particular with respect to the criminal contempt matter; and her behavior during the JQC inquiry, we conclude that removal is the appropriate sanction.”
