MEAC football coaches think Delaware State still has work to do

NORFOLK, Va., — Delaware State’s football team will start the season having to work its way out of the MEAC cellar again.

The Hornets were picked to finish last in the six-team league in the pre-season poll that was announced at MEAC Media Day today.

Delaware State went 1-10 overall a year ago including an 0-6 mark in the MEAC in Lee Hull’s first season as head coach. The Hornets were the only one of the six schools that didn’t reach at least one first-place vote.

North Carolina Central was voted the favorite to win the conference this fall. Howard running back Jarett Hunter and defensive back Kenny Gallop Jr. were named Offensive and Defensive Preseason Players of the Year.

DSU had three players named to the second team on the all-MEAC preseason squad: Senior tight end Edward Core, Jr. along with senior defensive linemen Eric Montes and Darren Cook

The Hornets open the season on Aug. 24 at Hawaii.
