Cuban Civic Club's clubhouse faces possibility of shutting down after 50 years
TAMPA, Fla. - The Cuban Civic Club of Tampa Bay's clubhouse is fighting to stay open after a recent building inspection. The nonprofit has operated out of the building off Memorial Highway in Hillsborough County since 1974. Its ballroom has been the backdrop for thousands of celebrations, concerts, corporate events, weddings, and more over the years.
Hillsborough schools chief talks taxes, teachers and losing kids to choice
In August, Superintendent Van Ayres will welcome more than 200,000 students back to Hillsborough County schools. He faces uncertainty over enrollment levels due to school choice and fallout from last year’s school boundary changes. State leaders have yet to determine the formula they will use to award school grades — a sore spot in Hillsborough, which led the state last year with 33 D and F schools. And voters will decide in November on a property tax that would allow the district to offer higher pay to its employees.
Hillsborough County Conducts Aerial Mosquito Control Over South Tampa, Residents Encouraged to Sign Up for Notifications
In an effort to manage mosquito populations, Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services announced an aerial spraying operation using Dibrom. The treatment, aimed at adult mosquitoes, took place on July 13, in several locations across South Tampa, notably within the boundaries of Swann Avenue to the north and Marina Bay Drive at MacDill AFB to the south, Bayshore Boulevard on the east, and Old Tampa Bay to the west, covering an area of 17,458 acres.
Pool contractor who left homeowners with unfinished pools has license revoked
TAMPA, Fla. — A local pool contractor at the center of a 10 Investigates investigation has had his license revoked. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation recently pulled JE Clear Pools' license.
