Minnesota is a good place for children, but we can still do better
I’m proud to call Minnesota home. One reason is because our state values its young people. Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota was happy to learn Minnesota retained its rank as America’s fifth best state for child well-being, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book. We should celebrate this extraordinary accomplishment. But there’s […]
Beautiful Wednesday in Twin Cities to start dry stretch
MINNEAPOLIS — A really nice Wednesday in the works with high pressure and a gentle wind coming in out of the east. Expect plenty of sunshine and temperatures fighting to break into the 80s.A wind shift will allow for more of a southerly wind helping us warm up on Thursday and Friday and eventually taking our temperatures to the upper 80s or maybe even 90 by the weekend. We should remain dry for the rest of the week, with an increase in humidity as the temperatures build. It looks like we're good for the Aquatennial stretch, but there's a chance for storms to return near the end of the weekend and the start of next week.More Canadian wildfire smoke to pour into MinnesotaIf you're in the western half of Minnesota on Wednesday, you could see some wildfire smoke, and it could end up spreading to the metro.By Thursday, the entire state, except the northeast, could experience some level of smoke.

So how likely is it to happen again?Across the metro and the state, dams control flooding on waterways, maintain lake levels for recreation and help fish and wildlife. Some are big structures. Others you might miss. Each has a...

ROCHESTER, Minn. – A fire in two garage units caused significant damage Tuesday evening. The Rochester Fire Department (RPD) says it was called to the 3900 block of 19th Avenue NW a little after 9:30 pm and arrived at the scene to find flames consuming two garage units. Firefighters used gas-powered saws to remove the garage doors and quickly doused the flames. RPD says ceiling material then had to be removed to make sure the fire had not spread to adjoining units.
Sunny, quiet Wednesday-Thursday (and beyond)
A smoky haze will stick around through Wednesday, but it’s looking like we’ll see more blue sky later this week. There will be some clouds early Wednesday, especially early as some patchy fog lifts by 9 to 10am. We’re in a quiet weather pattern through the rest of...
