Commissioners honor retired longtime Dover basketball coach
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) Tuscarawas County leaders are helping send off a local sports icon. During Monday’s board meeting, the county commissioners presented a certificate of recognition to longtime Dover head basketball coach Bob Von Kaenel, who hung up his whistle last month after 33 winning seasons. The inscription reads, in part:
FINAL RESULTS: 2024 WOSGA Cosmopolitan Four-Ball
Cari Hetler (Green) and Diane Rubin-Schuld (Canton) finish the 5th Annual WOSGA Cosmopolitan Four-Ball with two consistent rounds to claim the win at Alliance Country Club. The pairing shot 36 on the front-nine both days, and missed having two of the exact same rounds by one stroke; posting a 37 on the back-nine on Monday and a 38 on Tuesday. The consistency the team displayed through the two days propelled them to a three stroke lead in the Gross Division.

YMCA Prepares for Annual Golf Fundraiser
The Tuscarawas County YMCA will hold its 23rd annual Memorial Golf Outing on August 15th, at Oak Shadows Golf Club in New Philadelphia. Formerly known as the Jack Marsh Memorial Golf Outing, the name has been updated to honor Craig Rader, a long-time Tuscarawas County YMCA supporter and former board member, who passed away in 2021.
Fleiner and Hahn Named WGCA All-American Scholars
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A pair of Akron golfers were named to the 2023-24 WGCA All-American Scholar Team as Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) and Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) were among the 1,497 women's collegiate golfers from 412 programs in all divisions (DI, DII, DIII and NAIA) were recognized with this prestigious honor.
