Public memorial planned for Jesse Owens, Perkasie man, 21, who died after tree fall
A Perkasie-area man who was severely injured by a falling tree on Aug. 2 has died, according to his mom's Facebook page. Jesse Owens suffered traumatic brain injuries when a tree fell on him, a few days before his 21st birthday. He was put on life support at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, according to his mom, Kristin Moyer.
Pa. sportsbook closes, 31 people to be laid off
A sports and horse race wagering venue in Philadelphia has closed, according to a message on the Parx Racing website. In addition, more than 30 employees will be laid off. City Turf Club Op Co. and Keystone Park Services Company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry informing the state that the South Philadelphia Race & Sportsbook will close and 31 people will be laid off at 700 Packer Ave.
Volvo selects Monterrey, Mexico for new Mack Plant
L. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - Volvo Group announced today that is has selected Monterrey in northeast Mexico as the site of a new heavy-duty truck manufacturing plant. In early April, Mack Trucks parent company, Volvo Group, announced that it would build a plant in Mexico to supplement its U.S. production of Mack and Volvo trucks. Mack employees and their union were not happy.
