Deadly bat disease identified in several northern California counties
CALIFORNIA – A disease that can be deadly in bats has been identified in several counties across California, including multiple in the northern part of the state. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), while no bats have visibly shown signs of infection, the fungus that causes white-nose syndrome has been detected in Sutter, Placer, Amador, and Inyo counties this year. Additionally officials say the fungus may also be present in Trinity, Siskiyou, Shasta, Plumas, Alpine, San Diego, and San Bernardino counties.
Storm Incoming: Strong Winds and Wintry Conditions Ahead for Northern Nevada
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a red flag warning for the southern Sierra Front and southern Mono County until 7 PM today due to poor overnight humidity recoveries and gusty southwest winds, which are expected to continue. Wind gusts have reached 35-45 mph in many areas, with some wind-prone regions experiencing gusts as high as 50-55 mph. Cooler temperatures and improved humidity levels are forecasted for this evening as a cold front approaches.
