Never-Before-Seen Footage Shows JFK’s Final Moments While He Was Assassinated

More than six decades after former U.S. president John F. Kennedy was murdered, new never-seen-before footage of his last moments has been unearthed and is being prepped for auction. Former Secret Service Agent Clint Hill could be seen trying to protect JFK at the time.

Hill, who was in his thirties back then, said the footage touched him deeply as he could clearly recall the infamous tragedy of November 1963. At the first shot, he made for the back of the presidential limo to cover the late president and his wife, Jackie.

The moment was captured by a local Dallas truck driver named Dale Carpenter Sr., who was at Stemmons Freeway while chaos broke out. Dale’s daughter got hold of it after he died of Parkinson’s disease and then passed it on to her son, James Gates, along with family films, audio recordings, a projector, and the reel-to-reel audio recorder.

James received the footage in a plastic Dean Foods milk crate, which he kept in a fire safe until he recently decided to archive the content. He reached out to Hill in 2012 after researching the assassination, and now it will be made public via a 2025 documentary about Hill titled Agent Number 9: The Clint Hill Story.

The new footage will be sold this fall

The 60-second 88m color film is currently being bid for online and will be auctioned live later this month by RR Auction company. The executive vice president at RR, Bobby Livingston, says the footage is a first of its kind, as it gives a different perspective to the historical moment. He added that Hill’s effort to save Jackie and JFK was also well captured as the vehicle sped to Parkland.

The recording is arguably the next piece in the puzzle after another film by clothing manufacturer Abraham Zapruder, which is regarded as the most complete and graphic footage of the moment. Although Zapruder shows the exact occurrence, James unearths the aftermath, with a bewildered Jackie leaning over her dying husband.
