Sheriff: Reports of looting in evacuation areas of Larch Creek Fire
WASCO COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) - The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office is warning people affected by a wildfire that there have been reports of looting in the evacuation area. It has been a week since the Larch Creek Fire forced people to flee their homes near Dufur, south of The Dalles. Now, the sheriff’s office says people who had to evacuate may also be dealing with looters.
Larch Creek Fire 11% contained as firefighter build depth around perimeter

Dufur, Ore. – Fire activity remained stable overnight allowing firefighters to complete burn operations to secure the perimeter and expand mop-up activities. Decreased winds overnight coupled with higher relative humidities provided good conditions for the fire crews to make good progress.
Firefighters battle expanding Larch Creek Fire, now estimated at 18K acres
The Larch Creek Fire, situated south of The Dalles, has continued to grow this week, but the Oregon State Fire Marshal says firefighters are making progress on the blaze. The human-caused fire, which started Tuesday at 100 acres in Wasco County near Tygh Valley, has now expanded to an estimated size of more than 18,000 acres as of Sunday morning. Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek has invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the fire, allowing the state fire marshal to mobilize state resources to protect life and property.
