    Death of Duluth man in apartment fire considered 'suspicious'

    Duluth Police Department is investigating “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the death of a 25-year-old man after his body was found following an apartment fire.

    The fire happened on Thursday, July 25 , in an apartment complex at the 600 block of North 47th Ave East. It was limited to an apartment on the first floor, and while the fire crew quickly put it out, they then found the body of Maxton Gudowski.

    After investigating the incident, Duluth PD confirmed on Facebook that "suspicious circumstances" surround Gudowski’s death, but has not confirmed at this time if it was a homicide.

    The remaining residents were safely evacuated from the building, with the fire causing approximately $25,000 in building damages.

    There is no word yet on how the fire started, with the investigation ongoing.
