Weapons Detection Systems Coming to Tuscaloosa County Schools & Sporting Events
A new, high-tech weapons detection system will be in use at every middle and high school in the Tuscaloosa County School System when students return to class next week. It's hard to believe summer break has come and gone, but classes begin at TCSS schools next Thursday, August 8th. When they do, students at all intermediate, middle, and high schools will find the new OpenGate Weapons Detection System in daily use at entrances.

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer officially secured his first commitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle Tuesday morning, as edge rusher Ba’Roc Willis announced he would be committing to the program. Prior to committing to Alabama, Willis had offers from 15 different college programs. While currently unranked according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Willis is considered as one of the top 2027 prospects in the state of Alabama where he attends in-state Moody High School. Expect Minor Delays Saturday as ALDOT Surveys Tuscaloosa Bridges for Bats
The Alabama Department of Transportation will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend to survey the population of flying bats under a trio of bridges here. John McWilliams, a spokesperson for ALDOT in west Alabama, said crews will close one outside lane of US Highway 82 at a time Saturday morning and evening to check under bridges for roosting bats.

Alabama long snapper Kneeland Hibbett named to Mannelly Award watchlist
Alabama Crimson Tide senior long snapper Kneeland Hibbett was recently listed on the Mannelly Award watchlist. The award recognizes the top long snapper in college football. Hibbett has been Alabama’s starting long snapper since the start of the 2021 season. The native of Florence, Alabama has played in 42 games for the Crimson Tide over the last three seasons. In 2023, Hibbett received All-SEC recognition from coaches from within the conference.
