Free household hazardous waste collection on July 27
The City of Evanston has partnered with the Village of Skokie to offer a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event to residents from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at the Niles North High School North Parking Lot. This event is held in conjunction with SWANCC and SWALCO, two solid waste agencies in the area. Check out the image for a list of accepted and not accepted items. 73% of Hourly Employers Intend To Offer Same-Day Wage Payments
Same-day pay for hourly workers is not only top-of-mind for employees, but many employers—73% in a new Onbe survey—think so, too, enough for many to begin planning for it. Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based corporate payouts platform Onbe says that is one finding from its 2024 Same Day Pay Survey. Released Monday, the survey also found that 70% of hourly employees would like same-day wage payments. Of the 339 employers and managers surveyed, 87% of them think their employees would be excited about not having to wait for a week or two to be paid.

A man who fatally shot a Chicago man in an Arlington Heights apartment Sunday won’t face charges, police said Monday. Arlington Heights police said the deceased — identified Monday as 33-year-old Jimmie Jackson Franklin of Chicago — unlawfully entered the Arbor Lakes Apartments residence near Bloomington Avenue and Lake-Cook Road, where a woman who obtained an order of protection against him lives.

A tragic incident shook the community of Villa Park earlier this week when 25-year-old Anthony Jimenez was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Jessica Reyes, during a domestic incident. According to CBS News Chicago, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced that Villa Park police officers responded to a call at an apartment on South Michigan Avenue Wednesday morning, where they found Jimenez with blood on his hands and chest.
