WAYNE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Emergency services will soon be restored to the Dunlow area of Wayne County after the Volunteer Fire Department’s unit closed last week .

The Wayne County Commission said during a meeting on Monday that JanCare will be taking over the route so EMS services from Kenova and Lavalette won’t have to cover it.

Their new facility is located in Genoa and will be leased on a month-to-month basis.

The hope is for crews to come in by Wednesday and be fully operational by the weekend. The Wayne County Commission said on Monday they are waiting on papers to be signed by the landlord of the new facility before dates are finalized, hopefully by the end of the day.

Earlier this year, the Dunlow VFD was forced to close twice. Once for two weeks from the end of March to mid-April due to a lack of insurance , and then again from May 30 to June 7 for a lapse in workers’ comp coverage .
