Dear Editor: In the summer of 2006, the Goodman Pool opened on the southeast side of Madison with support from a generous donation by Irwin and Robert Goodman. Built by Daniels Construction and supported today by John Hayes of Goodman Jewelers, the Goodman pool accommodates a large percentage of the Black community on the southeast side of Madison, offers scholarships to qualified families through MMSD, and swim lessons through MSCR. Home to the Goodman Waves, the pool hosted the 2023 All-City Swim Meet. The pool also promotes connectivity within the community. Imagine the joy of a young person seeing that their MMSD teacher is their instructor for swim classes. A fact that I am aware of from firsthand experience.
