Richard’s leadership and performance were pivotal in NCCU’s football success over the past few seasons. He led the team to its first MEAC title since 2016 and a memorable victory over Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl during the 2022 season, which marked only the third 10-win season in the school’s history as it claimed the HBCU national title. His dual-threat capability was consistently on display, such as in the 2022 season when he threw for 200 yards and rushed for 54 yards in a significant victory against North Carolina A&T.
In addition to his on-field success, Davius Richard excelled academically, maintaining a 3.59 GPA in Business Administration and receiving the FCS ADA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. His efforts extended beyond the field and classroom as he participated in community service activities, including hosting youth football clinics.
Richard’s blend of athletic prowess, academic excellence, and leadership has left a lasting legacy at NCCU. He was looked at as a potential NFL Draft pick last spring before an injury in an all-star game sidelined him during the final months of the NFL Draft process. He will now get a chance to start his professional career in the UFL as he undoubtedly hopes to find his way to an NFL roster at some point.
