Dutch Flat residents watch the annual aquacade at the community pool in this photo from the July 23, 1959, edition of the Auburn Journal. A throng of 850, the largest crowd ever in attendance, enjoyed a beef barbecue dinner prepared by a committee of 13 people. The pool was purchased by Kirby Quinn from the Frank Mattel estate and given to the residents of the mountain community by Quinn.
Search on for missing "jeeper" last seen on popular trail in Placer County
PLACER COUNTY – A search is on for a person who went missing on the Rubicon Trail in Placer County on Friday. The Placer County Sheriff's Office said roughly 100 searchers are looking for Warren Elliott, 70. Nine different agencies have responded, along with a Blackhawk helicopter from the National Guard. Elliott was last seen wearing a blue denim short-sleeved shirt with denim shorts.Deputies said he is a "Jeeper, not a hiker." The Rubicon Trail is a popular off-roading trail near Homewood, though there are multiple areas for someone to enter the trail. The trail features granite slabs, sharp rocks and large boulders.
Lincoln Police Seek Owner of Friendly Tortoise Found Roaming in Placer County
In an unusual case of lost and found, the Lincoln Police Department in Placer County is reaching out to the community in hopes of returning a lost tortoise to its owner. The department reported on their Facebook page, a large, amiable tortoise found wandering at around 9:45 p.m. Details are scarce on how the tortoise came to be roaming without its owner, but the police are actively seeking information.
