    2024-04-21

MANISTIQUE — Faith Cappaert ran away with a trio of first-place finishes to help the Stephenson girls track team take home third place at the Manistique Kiwanis Invitational on Friday.

Cappaert set the tone for the Lady Eagles with a blistering showing in the 400-meter dash, with the sophomore dashing across the finish line in 1:05.84, nearly two seconds ahead of Manistique’s Leah Goudreau, who finished second overall with a time of 1:07.75.

Cappaert’s fast start continued into the 800-meter run where she edged Munising’s Olivia Cotey to snare another first place finish in 2:52.48.

Cappaert wrapped up the hat trick after cruising past Manistique’s Maya Carlson by 10 seconds to capture first in the 1,600-meter run in 6:05.79.

The Stephenson girls racked up 113 points as a team. Despite its struggles against Cappeart, Munising took home first place with 155 points, while Escanaba (130) was second.

On the boys’ side, the Eagles finished fifth with 44 points. St. Ignace breezed its way to first place with 155 points, while Munising edged Manistique 106-104 to take home second.

In the boys’ shot put, Dahlton Berg heaved his way to fourth place with a toss of 33 feet, 5.5 inches. Cooper Gallop settled for fifth after finishing just behind Berg with a throw measuring 32’ 2.5”.

Cooper Gallop repaid the favor in the discus with a fourth-place toss of 86’ 1”, with Berg (75’ 3”) finishing fifth.

Owen Marcoe (13.21) placed fifth in the boys’ 100-meter dash.

Mattie Prestin took third overall in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 14.83. She also seized fourth place in the 200-meter dash, finishing the event in 31.65.

Prestin teamed with Madalynn Vista, Lilliana Revall and Adria Ruleau to bring home third place in the 400-meter relay (2:11.08).

In the 3,200-meter relay, Cappaert paired with Jada Kuntze, Joelle Beaudo and Kayela Putnam to run a first-place time of 11:12.45, well ahead of Manistique’s runner-up time of 11:24.07.

Kuntze and Putnam both shined in individual competition, with Kuntze placing fourth in the high jump (4’ 6”), while Putnam took second in the pole vault (8’ 0”).
