WGHS Students Place in Feats of Clay competition
On May 3 West Genesee High School sent 23 ceramic students to participate in the Feats of Clay event where they competed against 31 other high schools at multiple ceramic skill based events. After weeks of practicing and strategizing, the West Genesee team came in third place. Each year the winning team gets to take the Trophy and add their own school spirit ceramic element to it. Last year West Genesee won the entire event and took the trophy home. Over this year, the students brainstormed ideas, sketched, designed, and finally created and engineered our addition to the trophy. The school district is incredibly proud of the students’ dedication to doing their best and their good sportsmanship attitude at the event.
Thomas E. Snyder
These frequently used expressions during the last weeks of his illness seem fitting when sharing the news of the passing of Thomas Edward Snyder on July 1, 2024, in Cazenovia. Tom was born on Oct. 7, 1949, in Ft. Dodge, IA, but home was Algona, where he was raised. After graduating high school, he enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa. Tom, (or was it the college), decided it was not a good fit. He withdrew and enlisted in the Army when he knew his high lottery number guaranteed he would be drafted. He served two tours in Vietnam. He rarely discussed this time until his later years when he proudly wore his Vietnam Veteran baseball cap. Thank you for your service.
Ann Ferro: Modest and humble
The daffodils are up, almost ready to burst into spring color, their yellow heads dancing against the fence, reminding me that they should have been divided twenty years ago. Yet another failing in a long, long list of stuff that places me in the less than mediocre category. Yes, yes, I know, it is not all about me, but there are so many reminders of things either left undone, or done as “good enough” they pick at my psyche.

Ann Ferro: If you can’t take the heat… improvise
When it is as hot and humid as it has been of late, I find myself rearranging my life, or parts of it, to accommodate my inability to function when I am so hot that my eyes are sweating and when my hair, which is never something anyone would want, is so awful that despite the heat, I contemplate wearing a hat or at least an old fashioned kerchief.
