OKLAHOMA CITY — Fourth of July weekend was a deadly one for Oklahomans on the water. Since July 3, authorities reported at least five drownings at Oklahoma lakes and ponds. The Oklahoma City Fire Department worked eight drowning calls in the last month, and five of those people died.

Multiple people drowned over the Fourth of July holiday weekend at lakes across Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to several drownings, with one of the first being at Lake Thunderbird on July 3. Troopers said a man, identified as 53-year-old Sean Mooney of Harrah, was not wearing his lifejacket when repairing his boat and somehow fell into the water.
